01. The Challenge
The existing study was a sterile, underutilized space that lacked the "eclectic, layered styling" required to make it a true sanctuary for productivity. The primary obstacles included:
- Storage Inefficiency: Standard furniture solutions failed to utilize the full vertical potential of the room, leading to cluttered surfaces.
- Lack of Architectural Identity: The room lacked the "refined and personal" character found in the rest of the home’s design-build ecosystem.
- Poor Lighting Integration: Existing lighting did not highlight the workspace or create the depth needed for a sophisticated library atmosphere.
Our mission was to provide a structural transformation of the walls through millwork to improve the room’s flow, usability, and overall comfort.
02. The Solution
Our collaborative and transparent process ensured that the custom woodwork and structural upgrades aligned seamlessly to maximize the space.
Bespoke Millwork & Library ShelvingWe designed a floor-to-ceiling library unit that serves as the room’s focal point, utilizing custom cabinetry to hide technology while showcasing personal collections. This bespoke solution maximized storage and added the "layered styling" synonymous with Pacific Northwest modernism.
Integrated Construction PlanningBecause we bridge the gap between design and build, we integrated hidden LED lighting directly into the millwork headers. This meticulous attention to detail provided both functional task lighting and a warm, atmospheric glow that highlights the natural grain of the wood.
Curated Aesthetic DirectionThe styling phase involved a meticulous finish selection, using hand-applied stains that reflect our regional PNW influence. We curated a palette that complements the home's broader aesthetic vision, ensuring the study feels like an intentional part of the home’s complete ecosystem.
